Protecting the Building Envelope

Moishy Berger of Master Roofing and Siding

Exterior issues rarely announce themselves. Moisture works its way in, materials age unevenly, and assemblies gradually lose their ability to seal a building the way they were designed to.

That’s why this kind of work is rarely just cosmetic. Roofing, siding, and facade systems all play a role in protecting the structure underneath… and when one part fails, the effects often spread.

Moishy Berger of Master Roofing and Siding focuses on that full exterior picture. As he put it during the conversation, “We’re doing the whole envelope of the building — roofing, siding, stucco, paneling, waterproofing facades. Anything involved in sealing your building.”

That scope includes both new installations and large-scale exterior replacements, where materials, detailing, and execution determine how well a property holds up over time.

Master Roofing and Siding works across New York City, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut, and has also completed projects nationwide — including portfolio-wide exterior upgrades on commercial and residential buildings. Many of those projects involve coordinating exterior systems across multiple properties, where consistency and execution matter as much as the materials themselves.

Founded 22 years ago, the company continues to return to OJBA each year. Moishy explained that the value isn’t only in meeting new clients. “It’s probably more important to maintain old customers than to find new ones,” he said, pointing to the long-term relationships that continue to grow through repeated conversations at the show.

The discussion also touched on material choices. One area seeing increased interest is siding designed to replicate the look of wood… without the ongoing maintenance that real wood requires. While natural wood can still be used, Moishy noted, “If you put real wood on your house, you have to maintain it — and it’s very expensive.” Wood-look alternatives offer a similar appearance without the same upkeep.

Those decisions — how materials age, how much maintenance they require, and how they perform years after installation — are central to exterior work. Once installed, these systems are expected to protect the building quietly… without drawing attention to themselves.

Hear Moishy describe the kind of exterior work Master Roofing handles — and how material choices affect long-term maintenance and performance.
