Commercial Kitchens Built from the Inside Out
Alter Lowy of Kitchen Wholesale Market
Commercial kitchens don’t come together at the end of a project. By the time equipment is being ordered, many of the most important decisions — layout, workflow, clearances — should already be settled.
That’s typically when Kitchen Wholesale Market enters the picture.
Based in New York, Kitchen Wholesale Market (KWM) designs, supplies, and equips commercial kitchens. The company works at the planning stage, alongside architects, designers, and owners, to think through how the kitchen will operate once it’s in use.
As Alter Lowy explained, “We come in from the beginning — for designing, for architecting. I help the architect and the designer set up where the kitchen has to be, where the ovens go, where the tables are, where the sinks are… all the details.”
Alter’s background plays a big role in that process. A former chef who also works in events, Alter knows how kitchens perform during service — not just how they look on paper.
KWM uses full-scale virtual walk-throughs, letting clients step into the kitchen layout before construction begins… walking through how the space will be used, spotting issues, and making adjustments while changes are still easy to make. It’s a way to test the kitchen in a real space, not on a floor plan.
Kitchen Wholesale Market is a newer company — just seven months old — but the owners bring more than 15 years of experience in the commercial kitchen industry. For clients, that means hands-on involvement from people who’ve been doing this work long before the company name existed.
KWM’s involvement doesn’t stop once a kitchen is installed. When service issues come up, the team helps coordinate warranty claims directly with manufacturers — and stays involved even after warranties expire, connecting clients with the right people to get problems resolved.
This was KWM’s first time exhibiting at OJBA. As Alter put it, he came to “show my face and my name… to all my existing clients that know me, upcoming clients, and to build connections.”
