Because business isn’t just about what you know, it’s about who you know.
Barry Fulop Of Duralux
Duralux Canopies is no stranger to OJBA, they’ve been attending the show for many years, and for very good reason. “It’s a great show,” Barry shares, “It always brings in business.” In a year when real estate and Amazon businesses are experiencing some challenges, you’d expect that the show would have been smaller than last year.
“But it wasn’t.” he muses “There were more booths, and it was bigger and busier than ever before.” Barry enjoys the hustle and bustle of the show also the energy, fast pace, and large crowd suits Barry perfectly.
Duralux creates custom architectural canopies for buildings. Their product can be found in retail shopping centers, hotels, and other hospitality buildings. The Duralux team originally worked in signage, but architectural canopies became very popular around 2017. Duralux segued into it and hasn’t looked back. With 20 employees currently on staff, they are really busy and loving every minute of it. They design, fabricate, and install in the local NYC area. “We ship all over the US,” says Barry “ And eventually we’d love to offer installation nationwide too.”
What are some of the challenges of this particular industry?
Duralux comes in last in construction projects.
That’s where they need both flexibility and patience. Timelines can and do get changed, due to many factors in the construction process, sometimes without much notice.
Duralux takes pride in standout customer service. “We only hire people who are upbeat, positive, and willing to keep learning new things. And that there’s never a reason not to treat a customer royally. ” Barry’s advice for succeeding in business? “Be curious! I’ve been doing this for a long time and I’m still learning new things every day!”
