Because business isn’t just about what you know, it’s about who you know.
Daniel Hartman of Retract Pool Enclosures
Daniel Hartman’s in an interesting niche business, the business of making sure his clients can utilize their pools all twelve months of the year. He creates and installs retractable pool enclosures that turn your pool from a three-month a year feature into one you can enjoy all twelve-months of the year. Most of his clients are residential but he also services Airbnb rental companies. “Having a pool with an enclosure makes the rental much more profitable. Even during the off-season when they’re only renting on weekends they can still pull in a nice amount renting just the pool on apps like Swimply. Indoor pools are very in demand in the Northeast in the winter. It’s an investment that really pays off. I had one client that paid off the entire enclosure in just a few months.”
So how did he get into this business? “I was at a friend’s house, and he told me he needed to check on his kids in the pool, in the wintertime! Then he showed me his enclosure. I couldn’t believe I’d never heard of this. It was an aha moment- I knew this was a great business opportunity! I knew I had to go down this road.” In the initial research stages, Daniel found out that there were very few companies doing this. That’s because creating such enclosures is complex and takes great attention to detail.
“In addition it was very costly, so many people simply couldn’t afford the price point.”
Daniel did something many people don’t, he put a lot of time into research before he jumped into the business. “I realized having my own factory would make the whole process easier, smoother, and more profitable. I’m able to pass those savings on to my clients.”
Every enclosure Daniel does is fully custom, since every backyard and pool has different features that necessitate careful measurement and design.” A slide might be great for the kids, but it raises the price tag on any enclosure since it needs to be built that much taller to accommodate it.”
What does he wish his clients knew that they don’t always think about?
“If you’re designing a pool, think about whether you want to be able to use it all year- and come talk to us before you put it in. It will save time and money!”
