Because business isn’t just about what you know, it’s about who you know.
Joel Weiser of Funding Nexus
It’s a funny thing- never being on the receiving end of a boss’s ire. But Joel Weiser never has, because he’s always worked for himself. But he still thinks there’s a lot to learn from working under someone else and he explains why it’s great training for business success. “Anyone that runs a business needs to be able to relate to his employees and their concerns.” And if you’ve never been on the employer’s side of the desk it can be hard to.
Case in point, Joel who is a pretty trusting guy, only recently put in tracking software in his office because of his natural tendency to trust that everyone is basically doing what they’re supposed to. The evidence shows that many do and some don’t. While running your business like a dictatorship is a bad idea, accountability is vitally important to running a healthy business. The assumption of responsibility on Joel’s part came from the fact that he’s always been a hard worker who didn’t need anyone to motivate him. Now a bit, wiser, he currently takes a hybrid approach trust AND accountability, to dealing with his team.
The Funding Nexus serves business of all types and stripes from food service to construction to almost any other industry.
“We can serve almost any type of business because they all have one thing in common they need healthy cash flow and we can help them with it.” Construction is a particular target market of Joel’s since people in the industry pay in terms, stressing the cash flow. “We have the connections and experience to get people the funding they need, from the lender best suited to their situation.”
What attracted Joel to this particular industry?
“It’s pretty recession-proof.” he explains “When the economy is great people need funding, and when times aren’t great, they definitely do!” Funding is also a very old profession and one Jews have always been involved in some form or another so that’s a natural fit too.
One piece of business advice Joel can share is the importance in of having a consultant on the outside. “A lot of businesses, especially startups, don’t want to spend on this but they’re making a big mistake. It’s a necessary expense, like electricity and heat for your office your business can’t thrive without it.” Joel has seen this personally in his own business, using Shaya Weissfeld to help him.
“Shaya really helped us take our business to the next level!”
Funding Nexus is primarily based in the Northeastern US but has also served clients from as far south as Florida and as far west as Texas and Washington. Joel’s dream is to serve even more clients nationwide!
