Because business isn’t just about what you know, it’s about who you know.
Glisse is Danish for brilliance- and it’s a really appropriate name for Berish and Rivky Masukopf’s custom glass business because what they
do is nothing short of brilliant. From custom glass railings, which Rivky says takes a home to incredible new levels, to 3D art, special mirrors, and custom glass doors, everything Glisse creates and installs is done with phenomenal precision and tremendous attention to detail.
How did you get into this business?
We were building our house and we needed a custom shower door- and we needed it fast. We couldn’t find a company that could meet our needs in our timeframe. We live in Monroe- and the only company that could help us was in NYC. That’s when we realized that there was a great business opportunity here. We weren’t actively looking for it but soon after an opportunity to purchase a custom glass business came our way and we felt it was Hashem’s way of showing us that it was the right next move for us! Five years later- we know it was, Bh!
Can you tell us what’s more challenging about working with glass rather than materials like metal or wood?
Glass is not a forgiving material to work with. There are no do-overs! You need to be 1000% accurate. For this reason, I’ve trained in laser measurements. Most glass companies don’t do their own measurements to the level of laser measurements and it’s just not the same level of accuracy.
Being able to do this saves time and money- we don’t have to source it out as many glass companies do. We’ve invested in tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of specialty equipment so with the exception of tempered glass which we do send out, we do a lot of these projects in-house.
What challenges do you regularly face?
Installations can be tricky- if the contractor changes the height of the saddle in a doorway by even a fraction of an inch it affects the seal of the shower or sauna. So, you need to be able to problem solve a lot- and need to be able to work around these types of situations.
How do you divide the responsibilities of running a business?
I do the sales and the laser measurements. My wife does more of the design part- she has a great feel for it!
What product are you excited about?
One of the recent products we really enjoy working with is switchable glass- glass that can be opaque or transparent depending on your needs. It’s very popular right now. We recently did the Asisa urgent care offices in Boro Park and they’re delighted with it!
What unique service does Glisse offer?
We have an in-house artist who can create paint magic- custom mirrors and art glass. Imagine it, and we create that unique piece that’s truly one of a kind.
