Because business isn’t just about what you know, it’s about who you know.
Aaron Broyn of Sierra Site Safety
When Covid hit, Aaron Broyn and his business partner David Serby were both licensed building superintendents inspecting buildings throughout NYC. At the time they were allowed to have up to ten buildings each on their roster. They were doing daily inspections and dealing with the Dept. of Buildings. In the months after Covid hit the DOB went on a spree of issuing violations and stop work orders at a phenomenal rate. They were exposed to a lot of scenarios at the same time. And that’s when they began to notice an interesting thing, builders would hire safety plan designers but many times they weren’t that knowledgeable about building codes. They were using Google Maps to draft the plan, without going down to the actual job site. “The safety plan designer should go down to the site in person to speak to the contractor and evaluate all the site conditions. They weren’t doing that and as a result the city was slapping a lot of violations and stop work orders on these jobs.”
Once, Aaron faced a situation where an inspector noted a discrepancy between the site plans, which showed two doors, and the actual site, which had only one. Aaron immediately contacted the safety plan designer to resolve the issue. He informed the inspector that the necessary revisions were being made and managed to address the situation in a way that resulted in a violation rather than a more severe stop-work order.
This was Aaron and his partner’s aha moment! “We realized we could offer something very helpful to clients, safety plans that are done correctly from the beginning. ”Timing and schedule is everything in real estate- we help avoid the violations and shutdowns that are so costly.”
