In New York City, even a straightforward residential project requires coordination. Homes sit close together, zoning is strict, and a full team — engineers, expediters, consultants — must work in sync to get a building approved and constructed. Mark Weinberger Architects manages that process from concept through completion.
The firm handles high-end residential, multi-family, and mixed-use projects across the city. But in New York, architecture means far more than drawings. “We’re the umbrella,” Mark said at the OJBA show. “We coordinate everyone to make sure the building is designed properly, approved properly, and built properly.”
That includes zoning and code analysis, assembling engineering teams, and supporting contractors during construction. Their role helps prevent issues that can stall a job — a zoning oversight, a conflicting detail between trades, or an approval delay. “You can lose months over something that could’ve been coordinated upfront,” Mark noted. “Our job is to make sure everything lines up.”
Structure matters internally too. “We answer the phone,” Mark said. Every project is reviewed weekly so nothing sits untouched. “There’s no such thing as a week going by without eyes on a project.”
Design drives the work. The firm focuses on buildings that feel intentional and enhance their surroundings. “I don’t do ugly buildings,” Mark said. “Good design isn’t necessarily more expensive… it’s about caring and thinking it through.”
That approach shows in their work. One client wanted a sprawling “Tom’s River house in Brooklyn.” Despite tight urban constraints, the team delivered the openness and character the client had in mind. Another homeowner requested a narrow three-story home with the warmth of a rustic cabin. The result was something entirely unique for the neighborhood.
This is the firm’s third year at OJBA. For Mark, the show builds recognition over time. “People are trusting us with millions of dollars,” he said. “It’s not an impulse decision. But when someone asks, ‘Do you know them?’ people say, ‘Yeah, I know of them.’”
That visibility supports the firm’s strongest growth channel: referrals. “Whoever we touch,” Mark said, “they run around telling everyone, “This is your guy.’”
