Pergolas and Awnings That Turn Outdoor Space Into Living Space

Izzy Galitzky of Privlux

A homeowner builds an outdoor kitchen. The deck gets expanded. A pool goes in. But without shade, shelter, and privacy, those spaces sit empty most of the year. Too hot in the summer. Exposed to rain. No separation from neighbors.

Privlux solves that. The company designs and installs motorized pergolas, awnings, and retractable screens that turn patios and decks into functional outdoor rooms… with adjustable roofs, enclosed walls, and weather protection that works year-round.

Sruly Galitzky started the company five years ago, drawing on his experience in window-shade manufacturing. Clients kept asking for outdoor solutions: privacy for pools, protection for outdoor kitchens, shade for decks. Most options were either flimsy or frustrating — panels you had to remove manually, pergolas with roofs that didn’t open, and systems that wore out after a season or two.

Privlux’s first product was a motorized screen that locks into side channels and rolls down with a button press. Strong enough to lean against and simple enough for anyone to use. “People wanted something that worked and lasted,” Sruly said.

From there, he expanded into pergolas. Sruly traveled to Italy, Belgium, and Turkey, visiting factories and testing products before partnering with manufacturers in Italy and Holland. Their pergolas function like outdoor rooms — roofs that open and close, optional glass walls, built-in lighting, and gutter systems that handle rain and snow without pooling.

Pergolas start around $50,000. For clients who need something more affordable, Privlux offers upgraded awnings — pitched roofs with roll-down shades and integrated lighting. They’re built to withstand weather, not just look good for a season. “One of my biggest lines of business today is fixing pergolas from other companies,” Sruly said.

“The aluminum’s too thin. After two years, they break.”

Most of Privlux’s business comes through shade installers who offer the products exclusively in their areas. It gives the company reach without a full sales team… and ensures customers work with someone who already knows the home.

Last year was Privlux’s first year exhibiting at OJBA, and Sruly spent the day connecting with designers and builders who guide homeowners toward these kinds of solutions.
