Because business isn’t just about what you know, it’s about who you know.

David Tauber of EZ Energy Services

David Tauber has a background in commercial real estate, though it’s long in the rearview mirror. “The real estate market dropped in 2008. It was an eye opener for me, “he explains “It showed me that I wanted to get off the roller coaster and go into a more recession-proof business.”

After receiving a job offer of multi-level marketing for an energy company, David did research on the energy industry. He recalls, “I realized the energy industry was a great idea. No matter how hard times get in a recession, people still need to run their refrigerators.” And that was the beginning. Today David leverages his real estate, computer programming, and energy backgrounds, as well as his love of problem-solving to offer a full-service energy consultancy.

One of the major aspects of EZ Energy’s business is helping clients with compliance. New York and New Jersey laws have passed very strict “green laws”, Local Law 84 benchmarking, LL87, LL33, LL97, and LL152. These laws give real estate owners and management a lot of headaches with compliance. In an increasingly complex energy landscape, EZ Energy helps companies navigate the maze.

“We do full onsite Local 97 reports. We go through each and every item that buildings need to get done, how much it’s going to cost them etc.” EZ Energy also offers corrective measures, solutions and utility grants

One of the current available grants is free roof insulation. Adding roof insulation for multi-family properties reduces energy bills by a lot and keeps tenants warm and happy even through the coldest days of the winter.”

So here’s the detective part you’ve been wondering about. One of the many services EZ Energy offers their clients is installing their “EZ Sense” devices which helps detect where the most energy is being consumed, affecting demand charges on their energy bills. EZ Energy comes in, analyzes usage, and finds the places where waste is happening. There is a lot of know-how that you need to utilize to find where the breakdown is, and sometimes there’s not much evidence to go on. They need to follow the trail, and it’s often hard to follow.

“I once had an office building client who felt that his energy bills were too high. We came in and did a full investigation. We found his lights were on all night, till 6 a.m. even though the building was empty. It was costing him $10,000 a year to light an empty building at night.” Another client had two identical buildings and one had much higher energy bills. David and his team figured out that one building had a heater that was on 24 hours a day from October to May. Figuring this type of stuff out takes a lot of experience and a lot of attention to detail, something the company has an abundance of!
