Because business isn’t just about what you know, it’s about who you know.
Mark Hertz of Mark Hertz Group
Mark Hertz has been in the business of real estate Compliance for a LONG time. Thirty-nine years, to be exact. What started as one company has evolved, Baruch Hashem, into four companies with thirty employees. “Our job is to help people with compliance issues on their property and find a way through the bureaucracy in NYC.” Violations can be confusing and complicated to deal with and Mark, with his team, know how to make it as smooth as possible.
New York building codes have become increasingly complicated as the state legislature and city council pass more and more laws making construction and management harder to navigate.
One of Mark’s favorite stories is about a wedding hall that got a vacate order right before Lag Baomer, a complete disaster for the owner and families who had booked the hall well in advance “It was the start of the busiest wedding season of the Jewish year. The timing couldn’t have been worse!” Mark recalls. But like a superhero, Mark Hertz Group swooped in and saved the day. They got it lifted within a few days, saving the day for the owner, as well as his celebrating families.
So how does Mark Hertz Group work its magic? “We’ve been doing this a long time, and we’ve worked hard to develop a reputation for trustworthiness and reliability.” That trustworthiness is something the city workers as well as their clients know they can rely on. “We come very well prepared, no shtick and no baloney! We come forth giving respect. It works.”
Some of the headaches his team deals with: permit expediting, zoning analysis, sign-off on old jobs, letters of no objection, gas inspections for local law, plumbing applications….and an alphabet soup of other services too long to mention!
His dream for the future- “I’m 63, I was hoping to be retired already, I was sure by age 40 I’d have retired completely or at least learning half a day and working a half a day by now…”
Still the job is not without its pluses, though it doesn’t beat a Daf Gemara. “We help a lot of our own. There’s a lot of satisfaction in that. For me this job isn’t just about making a living, I love the challenge of a really complicated situation, and the joy in helping another Yid.”
