When a Tub Still Works — and Replacement Isn’t the Right Answer

Asher Klitnick of Ocean Reglazing

A bathtub can still function and still be a problem. The porcelain isn’t cracked. Water drains fine. But the surface is stained and the finish worn.

Replacing it is an option — but it’s rarely a contained project.

Full replacement usually means coordinating multiple trades. Tile has to be removed and redone. Plumbing work is involved. Costs can run into the thousands, and timelines can stretch into weeks.

That’s where Ocean Reglazing comes in.

Based in New York, the company focuses on bathtub reglazing and refinishing — resurfacing tubs whose finishes have worn down, stained, or chipped over time. Instead of removing the fixture, the tub is refinished and reglazed on-site. Ocean also refinishes the washbasin to match, giving the bathroom a clean, consistent look without a full renovation.

“When there’s an issue with the tub, that’s usually where we come in,” said Asher Klitnick.

Reglazing typically takes less than 24 hours. The tub stays in place, and the scope of work stays limited. What could turn into a weeks-long project is handled quickly — and the surface looks new again.

Ocean’s work often happens during unit turnover at multifamily properties. A tenant moves out, the tub still functions, but it doesn’t meet the standard for the next occupant. Reglazing resolves the issue without expanding the job.

“We mainly work with management companies,” Asher explained. “Anybody that needs good, quick service — seamless work.”

That practical role is what brings Ocean back to OJBA year after year. This was Asher’s fourth time exhibiting, and many visitors were already familiar with the company.

“People stop by — current customers, new customers,” he said. “Some tell me they met us the first year we were here.”

The show is also one of the few times Asher meets long-standing clients face to face.

“I don’t usually see my customers,” he said. “They were hoping to see me today.”

When reglazing is done well, the tub and sink look new again… and the unit is ready.
